Carmelo Anthony was born in the Red Hook projects in Brooklyn, New York. He was born to a Puerto Rican father and an African American mother. His father died of cancer when he was two years old. This left his mother on her own to raise her infant son and his three older siblings. Carmelo’s mother worked and because he had older siblings, Carmelo was left in their care.

He loved basketball. When he first began he tried out for the high school teams and worked hard on his game. But because of his height and and build he wasn’t much to look at. In the summer of 1999 Carmelo went through a growth spur and soon became one of his area’s top players. To date, Carmelo has emerged as one of the most well-known and popular players in the NBA. He currently plays for the New York Knicks and averages 24 points a game. He broke the United States men’s Olympic team’s record for the most points in a single game in the 2012 Olympics in London.

Carmelo married Lala Vasquez in 2010, an actress and television personality. They have a son and currently live in New York.
