LENNY KRAVITZ

LEONARD ALBERT “LENNY” KRAVITZ (AFRO-BAHAMIAN/AFRICAN-AMERICAN/RUSSIAN/JEWISH)

We all know him as the “American Woman” rock star! He is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actor and arranger. A Grammy Award winner for “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance” from 1999-2002, breaking the record for most losses in that category and most consecutive wins in one category for a male.

He is Lenny Kravitz named after his uncle, Private First Class Leonard Kravitz who was killed in the Korean War. Lenny Kravitz is Afro-Bahamian, African American, Russian and Jewish. He was born to Roxie Roker, an actress from the television sitcom The Jeffersons and Sy Kravitz an NBC television news producer. His parents were a mixed couple living in New York, Lenny’s mother was Afro-Bahamian and African-American and his father was of Russian and Jewish descent. In 2005, Kravitz’ father passed away from leukemia, he was touring with Aerosmith and paid tribute to his father in front of fans at a Mohegan Sun Casino Arena show in Connecticut.

Lenny Kravitz identifies himself as half Jewish and half Black but looks in between. He was raised to embrace both sides of his culture. Lenny Kravitz has one daughter, Zoe, with actress Lisa Bonet. The two were married for six years.

Lenny now lives on Sunset Island in Miami.
